FREEZE! Mutoid Man - Bleeder [13.07.15; 17.07.15]

Os Mutoid Man surgiram o ano passado com o explosivo EP Helium Head, apresentando-se como um trio constituído por Steven Brodsky (Cave In) na voz e guitarra, Ben Koller (Converge) na bateria e Nick Cageao no baixo.

Um ano depois, são agora aposta forte da Sargenthouse para o Verão de 2015. O novo registo - Bleeder - viu a luz do dia no passado dia 30 de Junho, agora com um colectivo mais maduro e com engrenagens bem oleadas.

As influências directas são claras. A fúria e os riffs dos Cave In e a percussão frenética dos Converge, aliados ao baixo de Nick Cageao, que os encontra a meio caminho e contribui para a essa união harmoniosa intitulada Bleeder. Hardcore, math-rock, psych e stoner estão todos lá, unidos pela corrente comum do metal, e o resultado dificilmente podia ter sido melhor.

Quando em março de 2014 foi anunciado que Wavves e Cloud Nothings estavam a trabalhar num álbum em conjunto, depressa se tornou um dos lançamentos mais aguardados do ano. A espera foi longa, mas valeu a pena.

No Life for Me resulta numa combinação certeira de Nathan Williams e Dylan Baldi, artistas com um percurso semelhante - inicialmente projetos a solo - que só agora se cruzou. Nathan Williams soma já quatro álbuns e um EP sob o nome Wavves. Os Cloud Nothings de Dylan Baldi conquistaram a crítica em 2012, com Attack on Memory, e tornaram-se presença constante nas listas de melhores do ano. Durante este tempo consolidaram o seu papel como dois dos nomes mais importantes para a música rock dos últimos anos.

O álbum foi disponibilizado a 28 de junho nas plataformas iTunes e Bandcamp, depois de meses sem detalhes sobre o seu lançamento. Gravado ao longo de dez dias na casa de Nathan Williams, em Los Angeles, resulta em vinte e três minutos onde há uma fusão da sonoridades, sem perder os elementos que caraterizam cada um dos projetos.

Numa altura em que os Cloud Nothings continuam em digressão e os Wavves preparam o sucessor de Afraid of Heights, com lançamento previsto para agosto, não se espera que, pelo menos por agora, No Life for Me seja mais que uma experiência isolada. O álbum tem o selo da Ghost Ramp Records, editora criada por Nathan Williams. É composto por nove temas escritos pelos dois elementos, à exceção de “Such a Drag”, da autoria do vocalista dos Wavves, e de “Nothing Hurts”, composto na íntegra por Dylan Baldi. Conta ainda com contribuições do baterista Brian Hill e de Andrew Caddick, colega dos Spirit Club.

No Life for Me é o destaque FREEZE! desta semana. Para ouvir de segunda a sexta-feira, entre as 14h e as 15h, sempre nos 107.9 da Rádio Universidade de Coimbra.
